World’s First Hi-res LED Wall Without Moiré

The installation of the world’s first high resolution LED video wall with an anti-moiré filter has just been completed in Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s (NRK) new studio.

NRK wanted to create the next generation of broadcasting studio, to overcome a key challenge faced by technology providers, and eliminate moiré patterns during camera zooms and for off axis viewing angles. During live interviews, presenters in the studio and those on screen were also required to have the same true-to life colour match.

Steve Scorse, VP EMEA for SiliconCore explains: “We worked with Display Systems, our Norwegian partner over a period of 12 months of extensive testing and benchmarks to develop a unique solution that removed all moiré patterns on high resolution LED video walls. Not only does this groundbreaking solution provide any broadcast studio with new levels of freedom and creativity, as an added bonus it also enhances contrast and black level in the picture.

The solution is based on the new 2.6mm Peony Broadcast LED panel from SiliconCore with its new Common Cathode driven approach. It measures13.5m x 2m; is designed in an L shape; has a pixel pitch 2.6mm; and resolution 4992×768 pixels. This makes for a backdrop and live correspondence screen covering over half the studio back wall.

Content wise, the screen is split into four different sections, each able to be used for different presenting functions, from a backdrop for images, statistics and highlighting key points of a story through to a live correspondence screen for interviews.
